Queenie‘s journey began when she noticed older kids practicing artistic swimming while she was speed swimming. “I was really interested, and the first class was really interesting for me. I decided to just continue,” the 11-year old recalls.
Queenie’s typical training routine with the Pacific Wave Artistic Swim Club is as dynamic as the sport itself. It starts with a warm-up, followed by swimming drills, figure practice, and routine work. Her favorite part? “When we’re doing figures and I’m learning new stuff,” she shares with enthusiasm.
This season, Queenie is most excited about her duet with her friend. “We’ve been doing it together, and it’s really fun,” she says. When asked about her proudest achievements, she highlights her high scores in figure competitions and placing fifth in a routine competition.
“Artistic swimming has made me stronger and healthier,” she explains. Beyond the physical benefits, the sport has boosted her confidence and communication skills. “It made me more confident, and it also helps with my communications,” she says.
Queenie’s role model is Olympian Jacqueline Simoneau, who once visited her team. “She got first place for Canada in the Olympics, and she’s really kind and beautiful,” Queenie says. For others thinking about trying artistic swimming, Queenie’s advice is simple: “It’s really fun, but you need a lot of strength. It might get tiring, but if you go through it, it’ll be worth it.”
